The beauty of minerals and rocks has been attracting the attention of collectors, mineralogists and museum staff for many decades. The permanent exhibition The World of Minerals assembled from the holdings of the Department of Mineralogy and Petrography / Moravian Museum features a range of impressive specimens of minerals from both Czech and worldwide sites. Nevertheless, most of the collection items remain commonly hidden in storage.
At the end of 2025, the department staff decided to make available to the public a selection of acquisitions obtained over the past ten years – whether through purchases, donations, or their own collecting activities. The exhibition News from the mineralogical storeroom thus showcases not only samples from traditional Czech sites, but also interesting pieces from abroad that have enriched the collection with aesthetically and scientifically valuable specimens. The displayed samples are shown in the introductory section of the permanent exhibition The World of Minerals, in three display cases that are part thereof. The exhibition offers an inspiring view of the beauty and diversity of the world of minerals, as well as of the important role of museum institutions in documenting and protecting them.
