Exhibition marking the bicentenary of the death of Antonio Salieri

Moravian Museum in collaboration with the National Heritage Institute

7 May 2025 marks the bicentenary of the death of Antonio Salieri, kapellmeister of the imperial court in Vienna, a composer, teacher and music theorist. The Department of the History of Music of the Moravian Museum holds in its collections a precious item, the manuscript of a requiem that Salieri wrote for himself and later dedicated to his close friend, Count Heinrich Wilhelm Haugwitz. The requiem and other Salieri‘s autographs, as well as copies and prints of his compositions, from the unique music collection of Count Haugwitz in the Náměšt' nad Oslavou chateau, are exhibited in this comprehensive manner for the first time.

The Maestro Salieri exhibition takes place in two locations. In the Dietrichstein Palace in Brno, visitors can view a collection of rare archive material and learn about the magnetic personality of Antonio Salieri through preserved documents and verified facts. The second part of the exhibition, in the arcade corridor of the Náměšt' nad Oslavou chateau, presents in more detail the extraordinary music culture of Náměšt' in the time of Count Haugwitz. Both parts of the exhibition are accompanied by a selection from Salieri's compositions.

The exhibition is held under the patronage of
