The castle is situated on the site of a water fortress from the 13th century, adapted in the 1670s. It got its today’s shape of a Baroque villa under the counts Paar in the 1720s. At the same time a park with numerous sculptures was established around the castle. Storerooms with natural history collections of the Moravian Museum have been located there since 1974.
