The Low Countries in Orders and Decorations / since Golden Fleece till Today

22. 5. – 30. 8. 2015

The exhibition is part of the international project „Cultural heritage of Emperor Charles V“ and is dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the inception of the Kingdom of Netherlands. The main line of the display is the presentation of historic and today decorations from the territory including currently three EU countries – the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. The display shows orders and awards in form of wearable decorations from High Middle Ages to the present. The introductory part deals with the period of knights and knight orders, first of all with the Order of the Golden Fleece the founder of which was the duke of Burgundy, Philip the Good (1419-1467). The next part of the exhibition features the period 1477-1815 (Dutch Revolt, War of the Spanish Succession and Austrian Netherlands, French Revolution and its consequences for neighbour countries). The following section describes the inception of the Kingdom of Netherlands and particular orders, together with the respective ruler who founded them. The majority of the exhibits come from the Museum of the Chancery of the Netherlands Orders in the Het Loo Palace, Apeldoorn (the Netherlands); they are on loan in the Czech Republic for the very first time.
