Historical Mining of Precious Metals in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands

In various periods, various materials were extracted in the Bohemian-Moravian Higlands: construction and decorative stone, gravel, brick clay, and crystalline limestone for burning lime. Rich local water sources were also exploited and mining was focussed on ores of various metals. Of supraregional importance were since the 13th century only deposits of precious metals, above all gold and silver. They were not very big, so they were exhausted in the first mining decades. Ten important historical mining districts and some smaller deposits of silver ore are presented. The visitors can enter an imitation of a mine and children can enjoy some small activities.
