On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Anthropos Pavilion inaugurated in the Pisárky park in 1961, the Moravian Museum has prepared a demanding exhibition from its collections gathered by the Anthropos founder Jan Jelínek during the scientific expedition organized by the Moravian Museum to the Arnhem Land in North Australia in 1969.
The highlights of the expedition have been objects obtained during the encounter with a group of Aborigines headed by the patriarch Mandarg. This group has conserved the knowledge of technologies and the world of ideas of the traditional community of hunters and gatherers untouched by the modern civilisation. The expedition members obtained from them authentic art objects, paintings on bark in the so called „X-ray style“ as well as unique information for the interpretation of Australian aboriginal art and spiritual life.
Today, these objects build one of the most valuable collections of the Moravian Museum. A large copy of the famous rock art gallery Oenpeli, prehistoric rock paintings, original archaeological finds or a reconstitution of the unique painted hut are part of the exhibition.
