Characteristics
The collections of the department include:
- Systematic collection based on numismatic material and medals from Moravia
- Large-scale and individual coin finds
- Sphragistic and phaleristic material
- Small plastic art works
- Items documenting the technology of the production of means of payment and small plastic art works
- The department owns a specialized library, the largest one in Moravia, containing some 12.000 volumes of numismatic literature.

- History of money in Moravia
- According to the specialization of the staff
Services for the public:
- Determination of numismatic material*, autheticity verification*
- Study in the library itself
- Cleaning and conservation of numismatic items*, making of galvanoplastic copies*
- Pictorial documentation of numismatic material*
- Persons seriously interested in numismatics are allowed to study collection items with the consent of the head of the department.
