THE BEGINNINGS OF REHABILITATION OF GENETICS AT MASARYK UNIVERSITY IN CZECHOSLOVAKIA AFTER 1962

IVO CETL, Masaryk University, Science Faculty, Brno

ABSTRACT – The 1962 Nobel Prize awarded to Crick, Watson and Wilkins put an end to anti-Mendelian and pro-Lysenkoist movement in the then Czechoslovakia. In 1962 the renaissance of Mendel’s work was begun and culminated in a governmental decree of 1966 officially rehabilitating genetics in our country. The following chronology was composed by Ivo Cetl (1924–2008), professor of Masaryk University who was responsible for the implementation of genetics into the university curriculum.
