Abstract - MAGDALÉNA RYCHLÍKOVÁ
Náprstkovo muzeum-Národní muzeum, Praha
When the Czechoslovak republic was established in 1918, Prague became for some Slovaks temporal, for the others permanent or new home. Only a small part of federal officials returned to Slovakia after the split of Czechoslovakia in 1992. They founded here the home, or the new home, or the second home.

Public houses were considered the „second home“, alternative to the traditional one, and they were poetically called so. They served mainly regular guests who enjoyed various privileges. Their relation to the pub was confirmed by nicknames they gave it, and especially their loyalty to the pub lasting for long years. Collectivities welded together in pubs were compared to families.

KEY WORDS: Public houses – Czech Lands – regular guests – alternative home

The article deals with the historic-ethnological issues of one of the binar opposions: own – foreign/non-local in love relationships and in the selection of life partners in the traditional rural milieu. It is based on sources from the Czech and Moravian territory from the 19th and early 20th centuries. It concentrates on customs, folk songs and verbal folklore as well as usual cultural communication. It describes the opposition own/foreign – local/non-local from the point of view of its importance for the cultural identity and integration in the community. Love relationships as one of the components of the universal opposition own-foreign possessed their own genetic memory and were influenced by the socio-cultural context of the time with its specific limits.

ABSTRACT: The paper deals with the notion of home in prayers and songs recorded in oral tradition of the 19th and 20th centuries. The sources are kept in manuscript collections of the Ethnographic Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences. Motives of protection and blessing the house and family can be found especially in carolling ceremonies and wedding feasts. The comparision of manuscripts with songs printed in hymnaries shows the use of some baroque religious songs during wedding feasts and their survival in the tradition of the 19th century..

KEY WORDS: Prayer – religious folk song – wedding feast – caroling
