JOURNAL HISTORY

The journal Anthropologie was founded by Jindřich Matiegka, Professor of Anthropology, Charles University, Prague, on the suggestion of and with financial support of Dr. Aleš Hrdlička in 1923. Matiegka edited (later with Professor Jiří Malý) 19 volumes until 1941 (volumes I-XIX) when the University was closed by the Nazi occupants.

Professor Jan Jelínek restored the journal Anthropologie with a subtitle "International Journal of the Science of Man".
He was editor since 1962 to 1995 (volumes I-XXXIII).

Current editor is Professor Jelínek´s successor Dr. Marta Dočkalová (since 1996, volume XXXIV- ).
